Margie Bovee
She directed over 30 plays and musicals.
Her students were recipients of several awards for outstanding performances in Massachusetts
High School Drama Festivals. She was the director of Student Activities at Dana Hall School
in Wellesley, a private boarding school for girls. In her home town of Holliston she founded
a summer youth theater program and started a local area arts council. Leaving education for
a short period of time, she started a personnel agency called Huntington Personnel.
In 1970 she became a director of the Cowan Slavin Foundation, a 501 C 3 non profit corporation,
which was managed by her father, Albert Slavin. That Massachusetts based foundation now funds
Two Twelve Arts Center.
When she first came to Michigan in 1993 she lived in Hamburg and worked for a brief
period of time at the University of Michigan as Director of Reception and Information for
the School of L S and A. In 1995, she and her husband David moved to Saline. In 2000 she
started to work at Brecon Village as an assistant to the Activities Director. Two years
later she began work as a staff writer and photographer for the Saline Reporter. It was
that job that familiarized Margie with the city of Saline and the potential for the arts
center that she envisioned. In December, 2005, the board of directors of the Cowan Slavin
Foundation voted to begin the Arts Center and the lease for the house at 212 W. Michigan
Avenue was signed. Two Twelve Arts Center became a reality with classes beginning in April, 2006.
Margie lives in Lodi Township with her husband David and mini-poodle Eliza. Her son Matt,
daughter-in-law Jane; and grandson Daniel live in Charlotte, NC.
