Calaveras (clay skeletons)-Ages 6+
Instructor: Meghan Collins
Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican and Latino celebration of the dead that takes place November 1 & 2. Contrary to Halloween in the U.S., el Dia de los Muertos is meant to be fun, not frightening. Students will learn about the role of symbols in art as part of cultural celebrations, specially Dia de los Muertos. Using clay, students will create the bones of a skeleton and join them togther with wire. When the Calaberas are assembled, students will dress them up using fabric and paint. If desired students may bring their own fabric scraps to use for clothing in addition to the materials provided.
