Mission Statement
The mission of Two Twelve Arts Center is to provide a creative hub offering visual and performing artists the opportunity and working space to come together to work, create, and teach. Margie Bovee - - Director
Margie was an educator and drama coach in the Boston area for 28 years. She directed over 30 plays and musicals. Her students were recipients of several awards for outstanding performances in Massachusetts High School Drama Festivals. She was the director of Student Activities at Dana Hall School in Wellesley, a private boarding school for girls. In her hometown of Holliston she founded a summer youth theater program and started a local area arts council. Leaving education for a short period of time, she started a personnel agency called Huntington Personnel. In 1970 she became a director of the Cowan Slavin Foundation, a 501 C 3 non-profit corporation, which was managed by her father, Albert Slavin. That Massachusetts based foundation now funds Two Twelve Arts Center.

When she first came to Michigan in 1993 she lived in Hamburg and worked for a brief period of time at the University of Michigan as Director of Reception and Information for the School of L S and A. In 1995, she and her husband David moved to Saline. In 2000 she started to work at Brecon Village as an assistant to the Activities Director. Two years later she began work as a staff writer and photographer for the Saline Reporter. It was that job that familiarized Margie with the city of Saline and the potential for the arts center that she envisioned. In December 2005, the board of directors of the Cowan Slavin Foundation voted to begin the Arts Center and the lease for the house at 212 W. Michigan Avenue was signed. Two Twelve Arts Center became a reality with classes beginning in April 2006.

Margie was awarded the Citizen of the Year award in 2009 to recognize her vision of the Arts Center in Saline.

Margie lives in Lodi Township with her husband David and mini-poodle Eliza. Her son Matt, daughter-in-law Jane; and grandchildren Daniel and Annie live in Charlotte, NC.

Cindy Barnett - - Program Coordinator
After earning an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from Oakland Community College, a BS in Psychology with a Sociology Minor from Missouri State, and a Masters in Science and Physical Education with an emphasis in Sports Psychology from Michigan State University, it was evident that Cindy Barnett could handle anything coming her way. With three children, Cindy was a stay at home mom for many years, but was ready to work again in fall of 2006. It was at this time that Cindy’s neighbor suggested she call Margie Bovee and meet with her about a job at Two Twelve. From the moment they met, Cindy and Margie cliqued and Cindy recalls walking out of the Arts Center for the first time with the best feeling. What began as a fifteen-hour per week job soon turned much more, and Cindy quickly mastered the job of Program Director at Two Twelve. Cindy recalls always being creative and having an appreciation for art, and enjoyed doing art projects with her three boys; but in coming to Two Twelve she felt an immense growth in her art appreciation. Introductions to new mediums, artists, and perspectives caused her fondness and knowledge of art to cultivate. She notes that the past five years have been a great learning process, and she has enjoyed developing her own art skills by taking a wide variety of classes at the Arts Center. Above all, Cindy’s top priorities are her three children; but in addition to her work as Program Director at Two Twelve, Cindy is the Saline Middle School Cross Country Head Coach and the Distance Coach for Track. She began coaching as a volunteer when her eldest son was in Middle School, and has been pursuing this passion for the past seven years. Cindy’s favorite things about being a part of Two Twelve are the people, artists, and the family feeling.

Gaines Collins - - Special Events Coordinator
Gaines Collins, who is the Special Events Coordinator at Two Twelve, organizes and arranges the Arts Centers’ monthly receptions and special functions throughout the year. In addition to her work at Two Twelve, Gaines has also made the transition to artist, taking numerous art classes that have inspired her to create more in her free time. Gaines has taken Knit a Felted Bag and has made about ten bags to date. In addition, she has learned how to make art quilts from Kathy Campau, and has been experimenting with new subjects and techniques ever since. Gaines is also a fan of felting, which she learned from Holly Kreag, and has used that process in the creation of many pieces. Gaines is also familiar with Michele Montour’s Silk Scarf Dyeing class, and has recently been introduced to drawing and pastel through the classes of Linda Klenczar and Jennifer Lickers. Though Gaines has been a freelance photographer for Saline area publications for years, coming to Two Twelve gave her the confidence she needed to pursue her artistic aspirations further. Gaines finds her inspiration from the artists and environment at Two Twelve, and wants the community to know that “Two Twelve Arts Center is a place to feel good about you. It lets your creative juices flow freely, and you make friends and feel artistically safe.”

Meghan Canavan - - Special Projects Coordinator
Following in her mother’s artistic footsteps, Meghan has always been interested in the arts. It wasn’t until after her freshman year in college, however, that she chose it for her major; realizing that it would be something she could do and wouldn’t ever stop enjoying. Meghan graduated from Western Michigan University with a BA in Art and a Marketing Minor in 2009, and became a part of the Two Twelve staff in 2010. After three years of working in retail, Meghan was thrilled to be doing something where she could use her artistic skills and knowledge. Being at Two Twelve has allowed her to utilize her creativity in many ways; including through graphic design work on promotional materials, and creative thinking on numerous other projects to benefit and help the Arts Center grow. Meghan loves the every day inspiration from artists who teach at and frequent the Arts Center, and has tried to keep up with her own artwork outside of the job. Though she has dabbled in many art forms, her current favorites are photography, drawing, jewelry, ceramics and printmaking. Meghan attended preschool through 12th grade in Saline Schools, and has thoroughly enjoyed being a part of an organization that helps bring so much art and joy to her hometown.

Keith McGuire - - Graphics Arts Director
Keith has been an artist for as long as he can remember. His watercolor and pen and ink work is best described as realistic, and he credits Andrew Wyeth as a major influence. Through Two Twelve, his passion for art has translated into a passion for teaching. In addition to being an instructor for classes such as Intermediate and Advanced Watercolor and kids’ Drawing Clinic and Watercolor, Keith fulfills all of the graphic design needs that Two Twelve has. Outside of Two Twelve, Keith has done promotional materials for numerous programs and places, including Saline’s Circle of Art auction to benefit Food Gatherers, and the Saline District Library. Keith’s favorite thing about Two Twelve Arts Center is that “it never stops.”
